The Final Day of VBS

Well, we're done with VBS!  I can't believe it is already over.  We were just getting into the swing of things too.  :)  It was well attended and a fabulous last day!  Many students accepted Christ and affirmed growth in their faith.  We heard about all the other wonderful opportunities going on here in South Africa and it is very encouraging.  Pastor Tommy said that "our dreams should always be bigger than our memories."  From hand powered carts for people without legs (due to landmines) and funding baseball teams and pastoral housing...God is doing great things here.  We are sightseeing tomorrow (Sat.) and then will attend church here on Sunday morning.  After church we will head to the airport to head for London.  Thanks for your prayers!  They are working!

It's almost over!

Hello!

It's day 4 @ VBS and our K-5 class had over 60 kids! It was great. We are walking thru the Lord's Prayer and today they learned  "Lead us not into temptation" (Matt 6:13) Cary and Doris asked me to give my testimony in their 8th grade class towards the end. I was nervous because that age group is intimidating for me.. there was a rage from 14-17 yrs old. I gave my testimony. At the end Cary asked the students to fill out a descion card so we can see where thay are in their walk w/ Christ...7 accepted Christ for the first time! I am thankful for the oppertunity to share my story and that maybe one person may be impacted. The glory goes to the Father.

Day Three of South Africa VBS

Hello!  Our third day of VBS was a success!  We had over 60 K5.  We taught about God's forgiveness and made painted butterflies.  You are free like a butterfly when you've experienced God's forgiveness!  Some paint actually made it on the butterflies!  The kids here are adorable.  It is wonderful when they get excited and truly smile. 

Please pray for us as we continue to teach.  Please pray for the Good News to be absorbed by these little ones.  We only have 2 days left!  We do lots of leaning over and on our knees with the little ones.  We don't have tables or chairs in our rooms so we work on the floor.  It is tiring, but we get some time over lunch to rest and talk.  Please pray for our energy level to remain high.  And please pray for a helper of ours (I can't remember her South African name).  Her husband is going to the hospital for treatment tomorrow. 

We had the warmest day of the week yesterday.  I got to sit out on the beach for awhile.  It was so refreshing.  The surroundings are so amazing, it's hard to take it all in.  Can't wait to show you all the pictures I've been taking.  I thought of another prayer request.  Our bus driver, Ishmael...pray that we can be a good witness to him.  Pretty sure he's not a Christian by the magazines he reads.

Day three in VBS Cape Town, SA

PRAISE THE LORD!!!! Monday we had 323, Tuesday 432 and Wednesday 450 children attend \\\  Tracie and Steve Sutton win the prize they had over 70 children in their class.  John and I had 29 7thgraders over half of them are Muslim. 3 of them made a decision today. Carol and Chet England and Chris Musino's 6th graders had 6 decisions.  Many,many of these children have come in years past and I believe God is now beginning to receive the glory in the decisions that are being made.   Pray now that God will begin to work in the lives of these children and  they will stay strong in their new faith.  Also, pray that God will begin now to work in the lives of our members to touch their hearts for service as we begin to immediately make plans for our return next year.  Psalms 3:4-5

South African kids are way cute!

Hey!  It was our first day of VBS: A Prayer Safari.  We had over 40 K5 children (and they say more come as the week goes on...a little scary!) and everything went very well.  They are so adorable.  Many cried b/c they wanted to be with an older brother or sister, but after we got into activities they forgot about their troubles.  We've ran into a few snags (like the glue just disappeared, I fried Jorgito's speakers and we couldn't play the music, we didn't know if we'd have any helpers from the church)...but God so provided!  We found the glue.  We found speakers at the church.  We had 6 helpers from the church.  The helpers were huge b/c it is hard to understand little kids anyway, especially when their language is a little different with an accent too.  The theme for VBS is Mathew 6, so iPRAY was a perfect study to preface the trip!  God is good.  We had a simply magnificent performance by 5 right whales in front of our cottages last night.  It was breath-taking.  Fins, tails, heads, all popping out of the water.  Apparently it is mating season so there are lots of whales close to shore.  Don't worry, they're underwater so it's not that graphic.  We have such a wonderful team.  We have so much fun.  Pastor Watson cracks me up!  He's great!  All are doing well.  Keep praying for salvation of our VBS kids and for health and safety of the team.  God is doing such great things!  So excited for each new day here.  Miss you and praying for this weekend's launch of 12:30pm.  Talk to you soon!  In Him, Jen  <><

I Lost my suitcase, but He is faithful!!

Hey Everybody!

OMG this place is amazing!! It's more like a vacation....J/K I hope Eric Geiger is not reading. Any way my luggage stayed in London b/c the plane was packed yada yada..I prayed and asked God take care of my things. Sunday AM we went to service and Pastor John Pascoe spoke of Mark 19 and how we must go into all the nations and preach the good news.."What part of GO do you not understand" was the name of the message.....awesome!! He also mentioned on how our "Jerusalem" needs more attention than we think which I think was the most impacting thing of all. It's great to cross the ocean but our neighbors don't know Christ!  So back to my suitcase.. I was not promised anything and on Sunday it arrived at my door! I was excited because I had my clothes back but more because our God is faithful when were not.  See you guys soon!

South Africa never looked soooo good!

Hey CF!  We made it to South Africa after an 8 hour flight to London and an 11 hour flight from London to Cape Town.  We met Pastor John Pascoe and his wife.  They treated us to snacks and drinks.  We dropped off our teaching supplies at the F.R.O.G. Center and then stopped by the grocery store on our way to our cottages.  We showered (which feels really good after so long in a plane) and relaxed to catch up on the time change.  It is beautiful here!  We are staying along the coast with a sand dune separating us from the ocean.  The weather is breezy and cool.  It feels great and refreshing.  No humidity!  We almost got run over by an elephant...just kidding.  The only animals we've seen are some birds and pet dogs.  Jezebel's suitcase was the only one not to arrive with us.  We hope it comes tomorrow.  We start teaching Monday.  Tomorrow we will attend church and spend the afternoon organizing our lessons for the week.  Keep us in your prayers!

South Africa Mission Team Ready To Go

Our South Africa Team is ready to go. John and Linda Reed and Tommy and Mollie Watson will leave tomorrow night and the rest of the team leave on Thursday night October 20, 2007. The full team is: Carol and Chet England, Jen Borton, Randy Bridgeman, Cary and Doris Miller, Deanne Moses, Chris Musino, Jezebel Napoleon, Bob and Floriena Knapp, Tonie Knight, Lee Niles, Janet Shipes, Steve and Tracie Sutton, Elaine Thigpen, Jennie Gelinas, Paige Gelinas, John and Linda Reed, and Tommy and Mollie Watson.

Please pray that God will give us all travel mercies and good health. That He will prepare the hearts and minds of all the children (approx. 300) that we will be teaching and that they will be open to accepting Jesus as their Savior. Wednesday Oct. 26 is the day we teach about Salvation and that day we need a special prayer that as teachers we will be able to show them that God loves them and that Jesus died for their sins. Pray also for Pastor John Pascoe who is the pastor of our partner church: Westridge Baptist Church in Mitchells Plain (a town outside of Cape Town) . This is a very difficult area as the crime is high and there is a high drug problem among the people. Many of the children are unchurched and/or come from Muslim families. Pray for the impact of this church in its local community.
